We offer an emotionally containing and therapeutic home environment for young people aged between 10 and 18 years, offering both short and long-term placements of children and young people of both sexes.

We provide therapeutic global assessments and interventions which can enable significant changes in the behaviours of the most challenging child or young person, not suited to fostering, and who is difficult to place within existing provision.

Our service is classed as a Highly Specialised Service, which should be seen as part of a continuum of care for children, young people and families.

We work with children and young people who challenge the systems they live within and who may present with highly complex and risky behaviours. For example, they may be a risk to self or others and presenting with offending behaviours, such as fire setting or sexual harming; they may have early experiences of trauma and abuse and have developed dysfunctional coping strategies; they may have all these things and also have a significant mental health issue or a learning difficulty, which means that they are ultimately difficult to place.

The primary therapeutic approach for Carlile House is psychodynamic in nature and within this approach, we offer a wide range of other specific interventions. A child or young person’s care will be planned on their individual presenting needs, meaning that every care package is bespoke and specifically tailored.
